I heard a story that Z's husband called her purse a Black Hole. Apparently things that went in there were never to be found again. (Z is Geeeez on my right sidebar)

I found some Videos of Z's Purse. Without Further Ado, the last couple are shorts and the first one is a bit longer but interesting. The videos show the movements of several stars orbiting the black hole in the center of our lovely galaxy.

Apparently, this massive back hole at the center of our galaxy also happens to be Z's purse. Makes perfect sense if you give it a little thought.

Blogger Word Verification Setting

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I figured out how to do mine. Click on Design. Instead of clicking on the gear on the right, I clicked on the Big B in the orange box on the left - The Blogger Icon. This took me to a page where in the upper right was a Checkbox labeled 'Make Blogger in Draft My Default' I unchecked that, then closed the tab and brought up my blog page again and it came up under the old blogger, where I was able to see the Word Verification On or Off Checkbox.

It Appears New Blogger Does NOT have a way for you to turn off Word Verification / Capcha Code Entry for Comments.

Here is an excellent Recent Post about how to do it.

And I see the same advice being given as recent as January/2012.

Most Unfortunately, "Old Blogger Interface" is no longer an option in this select list. How Special. But give it a try. Quickly stated, Click on Design, then Click on the Gear Icon. If 'Old Blogger Interface' does not appear in the list as it does Not appear in mine, then you apparently have no control over your commenters having to deal with the evil Capcha Code. If it does appear then follow the instructions to turn that sucker off if you want to of course.

Fortunately for me, I've never required the code, so no need for me to have to reset. For the people who do require a code and decide they don't want to anymore, You are out of luck until Google Blogger Provides a Means for You To Do So. Can you tell I'm unhappy about this?

Contact Google and let them know they need to provide a means to turn this garbage off.

An Appeal to Bloggers Regards Capcha Codes

Most Respectfully.

I don't ask for any codes and blogger is really good about keeping spam out of my comments. It looks like blogger has switched from the verify word to Capcha codes which at times are about impossible to decipher. If you can try to not require a code and see what happens, I for one would appreciate it.

I go in and mass delete the spam comments about once a month. No fuss, no muss. Maybe some of you have some comment troubles that I don't have. If so, I'm sorry to hear it.

Well maybe it's me, but I always end up doing about 4 retries with Capcha codes before I get one right. It's pretty annoying. Just sayin.

I'm not jealous. I understand that as time rolls along, the standard of living gets better for each generation, but really? When I was 22, or any other age, I worked for any dime I had in my pocket. Any material goods I had were bought with that money. These kids have it good. They don't know hard times. Hell, they don't know tough times.

It won't continue. It's not natural. Success only comes from hard work and accomplishment. Why didn't she and her dad appreciate that she gets the opportunity of free college so she can learn a Skill and get a job that pays more accordingly?

Long Term Investment Idea

Todd Harrison of Minyanville recently noted a breakout in the home builders index HGX. While that index is still in a longer term downtrend from 2005, it is currently up trending and has broken up out of a downtrend from 2008.

Gee, the big money knew something was up with housing 3 years before it came crashing down.

Anyway, there is an ETF which can be used to invest in the home builders which is XHB. An ETF is a basket of stocks, focused on an industry or sector that insulates you somewhat from one or more of the individual companies going bust.

I kind of like the idea because most people would puke if you suggested investing in home building right now and that is the perfect time to start building a position in an industry that is never going to go away. Like I wouldn't do steam powered PCs for an opposing example.

Following is a long term chart, showing the lifespan of the XHB index going back to 2006 showing a long term downtrend. A trend is recognized as 3 points over or under which a line can be drawn. The downtrend is easily recognizable. The uptrend from March 2009 is not confirmed as only two points touch the line but you can extend the line as time rolls on and see how it plays out. The breakout of the downtrend is more important.

Here is a short term view of the breakout of the downtrend that happened around $17. The market likes to test breakouts so I wouldn't be surprised to see this ETF head back towards 17.00 in the next couple weeks before heading back up (or down) but there is certainly no guarantee of that happening.

If you like the idea, one strategy would be to build a position over a period of time, like the next 6 months to a year and average into it. So, for example, put 5% of your intended dollars into it now. If it went back to 17, add another 20%, then try to buy it when it's weak.

I would define weak by looking at the MACD oscillator at the bottom of each chart. In the green is strong and in the red is weak. Everything always goes up and down. You'll never pick an exact bottom but if you buy when it's weak, you'll likely be happier than buying when it's strong. Here's a great site for information about all aspects of the markets and investing.

I read where the property owners (banks mostly) bulldozed 20,000 houses just in Cleveland last year. It would seem they are going to get the home inventory in shape one way or the other.
People will always need houses, even if they're only going to rent them.

Con

The 20% minimum down for a mortgage seems like it may force a lot more people to remain in apartment living.

Restoration of a true healthy home building environment still seems like a multi-year away event, but who knows.

Aside from housing, Technology stocks always lead a bull market. In that vein, a couple that the pros like are Google (GOOG), and SanDisk (SNDK). SanDisk makes those memory cards for cameras and other devices but also makes Solid State Disk drives. Solid State drives are big chunks of memory with no moving parts. Expect every computer device to have SSD's as time goes on. Especially mobile devices.

I personally don't like Apple here, as it is what the market calls priced for perfection. Stock prices for a company go up based on revenue growth and Apple has shot up because of its incredible growth with iPod, iPad, iPhone. Eventually it will hit the law of big numbers like Cisco system did and will not be able to grow 50% a year or even the 25% minimum growth the pros like to see to expect a rising stock price. It may go to 1,000 bucks, I just don't consider it a high percentage bet.

In the past I’ve complained about them working the system so as to exclude themselves from poor economic conditions. Translated as taking more money from the non-union taxpayers (most of us) who have less to give because of the poor economic conditions, no raises in years, and the devaluation of whatever money they have stuffed in a mattress. Then crying like babies because they have to kick in 75 bucks a year for a Cadillac Health Plan. Oh Boo Freakin Hoo.

And recently in Ohio, people voted to let them continue raping us at will. Though most of the people that showed up at the polls for this special election were surely public union members and no doubt there was some voter fraud ala oblabber's election. Add in some non public union morons who bought their fake sob story radio ads. Ads that were paid for by tax dollars distributed to the unions as 'Stimulus money'. There's nothing good here. Seriously.

States have been giving special retirement status to a growing number of types of positions. We can all agree that a 65 year old firefighter would be about useless, but Liquor Control Officer?, Gaming Officer?, Prison Worker?, Fire Investigator?, Dispatcher?, Motor vehicle Inspector?

In California, Milk Inspectors get this special status.

What is the special status? Well, it’s the ability to retire at 50-55 with large amounts of compensation (85% of salary for example for a 50 yr old prison worker in California) and full health and other benefits. Based on today’s life expectancy, that’s a 35 year vacation at Your expense. If you’re a non-union taxpayer. And no doubt when they reach age, they'll also apply for social security and medicare.

This stuff is ramping up big time, as more workers are pulled into special status. Sounds like Greece all over again.

Why did I not get a state job ?

Why Should We Have Soldiers In All The Places We Have Them?

I honestly can't some up with a good reason to have our soldiers stationed around the world, in hellholes in the Middle East, and otherwise, in Germany, France, England, Japan, Turkey, and others.

I personally feel all we need are Carrier Battle Groups stationed near all the hotspots in the world, where serious trouble can be addressed in a matter of hours with air power.

There is the all encompassing argument for continuing in Afghanistan or not, and my personal opinion there is that we're not going to purge the taliban from the Earth so we either commit to staying there forever, thousands of our sons and daughters maimed by IED's, RPGs and otherwise, or take another approach. Like arm the opposition and let them have at it, supporting them with air power seems reasonable. Afghanistan will never have a centralized government / security force to do the job themselves and Karzai himself often sides with the taliban. So, wtf are we doing there?

If we're sitting somewhere protecting someone like S. Korea, then they should be paying us, and a bunch of that should go as compensation to the military members and their families who are actively involved.

Iran or country Xyz about to get nuclear weapons. We don't have people on the ground in Iran nor will we. We have also never stopped anyone from building nuclear weapons, even with the U.N.'s Nuclear Watchkitty on the case, so what would having people on the ground near Iran do exactly.

If you're like me, you're fed up to here with public unions demanding to be excluded from any economic hardship the rest of the country is forced to endure, and to boot, they want to take even more of your money that you don't have to maintain their lifestyle, benefits, and pensions.

I have solutions. Let's start with "The Firefighters".

Fire them all, close down the firehouses, and sell the properties and assets.

The money that is generated just from eliminating their compensation and benefits, and to say nothing of eliminating the money it costs to create and maintain their infrastructure, such as buildings, trucks, equipment, training, etc, would Easily pay to rebuild Any and All structures damaged or destroyed by fire.

The firefighters never save a building anyway. If it looks like the building might survive, they take their axes to it to be sure it doesn't. They destroy virtually everything within with water and chop the suckers to the ground to be sure there are no remaining 'smoldering embers' when they leave to go back to the firehouse to cook up some firehouse chili.

Seriously, Maybe once a year they post a picture of a firefighter carrying a traumatized cat from a building. I think they recycle these pictures.

So, there ya go. Boom. One problem solved, one major taxpayer funded expense Eliminated.

I'm Going to Explain Something That No One Else Seems Able To

The US Stock Market. At least within the context of the last decade and probably the next decade. It is all about the value of the US dollar.

The value of the dollar goes down and the Stock Market, (which is a market of stocks), Oil, Gold and all other assets priced in dollars goes up. If the dollar, which was worth a dollar yesterday is only worth 98 cents today, people want more dollars for the same basket of goods.

When the value of the dollar goes up convincingly, all of this stuff goes down. That's it. That's all you need to know.

Watch it and you will see that 90+% of the time even to the day that the US dollar rallies and goes up in value, the market heads down. More specifically, it is re-priced down. I say 90+% of the time because the 'market' is not a Swiss Watch. If it were and were always logical on each and every day it would be too easy to profit from. People would program their computers to trade and everyone would get rich. An impossibility.

Anyway, an easy way to think of it is: When the value of the dollar goes down, OPEC wants more dollars for their one and only world distributed product - oil. Gold is also easily correlated to movements in the value of the dollar. Dollar up, gold down. Dollar down, Gold up.

By the way, don't you love it when they show a picture of stock trading floor traders looking worried or holding their heads in their hands becuase the DOW went down 150 points? These people make money both ways, coming and going. Please...

The market has been rallying and has lately been held up because of all of The Fed's actions which served to devalue the dollar. Specifically, the printing of trillions of dollars to buy/trade worthless mortgage paper from the banks and returning real money in the form of US Treasuries - that actually have some value. They called that Quantitative Easing. They should have called it Raping America with telephone poles.

The market itself is a bit more fuzzy because it is valued not only by the dollar but by the actions of specific companies. eg. IBM doubles its sales and profit. "The market" or at least IBM and Technology stocks are going up regardless. IBM is worth more dollars even if the dollars are worth more.

I'm not waffling. I'm saying that on 2 out of 100 days, the dollar and Gold or Oil or the Market or all of these have been up together. That is an anomaly. It won't stay that way for long. More than a day or two in fact.

So, when the person from CNN or ABC, or even the Wall Street Journal prints a story with a headline that reads "Stocks Rally on Big Black Friday Sales!" or "Stocks are Sold on Tensions in Middle East!", or any of that nonsense, just smile to yourself, look at what the dollar did and what the market did.

Why do "news people" - some of the dumbest people on Earth anyway - feel it necessary to try to explain the movements of the stock market? Why don't they just say "Market Up (or Down) Today. No One Knows Why"

Grey Goose Goes Ninja

Grey Goose was a cool cat. Always laid back, always engaged with us and the rest of the kitties. Later when he and his brothers got bigger, he would still love to play with the new foster kittens that came along.

When he sat in the LazyBoy, he would sit like a person would - right paw up on the armrest, back against the back, feet stretched out. He loved to watch golf.

He was very creative. Later on he made a hammock out of an Azalea bush..

Back when he was still a kitten though, I was in one of the bedrooms we used to take care of the foster kittens, and I picked him up to take his picture with the camcorder. All of a sudden, he went Ninja and was vibrating like one of those gag buzzers people hide in their palm and shake your hand and it feels like an electric shock. I was worried I might be hurting him somehow, so immediately dropped him to the blankets below. He wasn't hurt, and it was pretty funny actually. Here is the Vid.

The Kitten Fostering Days

So, I'm getting closer to editing a bunch of our video from the fostering days to put together a fun cat/kitten antics video, and I put this one together to start getting familiar with my new video editing software which happens to be Corel Video Studio Pro X3.

The Mom is Suzie, the first cat we took in to foster and she was pregnant and promptly had Monique and Alphonse the same night my wife brought her home. They're just a couple days old here.

Then a few days later, three orphaned kittens were brought to the shelter, so they were placed with us, since our Mom cat only had two and was nursing. My wife was going on about how to rub some of the momma fur on them so she'd be more likely to accept them, as I was dropping them into the crate with Mom. She took them in right away and began feeding and caring for them. Those three turned out to be Little Bear, Big Bear and Grey Goose.

Belated Veteran's Day - My Dad Served in World War Two

Dad never told many stories about the war, but he walked all through Italy, France and Germany as an Infantry Sergeant from 1942 through VE Day.

(btw tissue alert maybe at the end of the post. Was for me anyway)

Here are a couple stories he told us.

He was in France and an appreciative French family gave him a couple bottles of wine at their residence. He put them inside his jacket near his chest,facing up. After they had left and were making their way through a field, some Germans started shooting at them. As they ran for the cover of the trees, one of the bottles of wine, excited by the up and down motion, popped its cork, hitting my Dad in the chin and making him think he had been shot. He had not been shot.
He said they were walking down a street in Italy once and a sniper shot and hit his buddy in the belt buckle dropping his pants. They ducked behind a wall and got things back together.
He told us about the statues he saw of Pompeii volcano victims and it was obvious that some of these people were buried in ash before they even knew something was happening. Some were standing or in other positions, and by the body language were quite relaxed and unaware.
He said he carried an M1 because “You couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn with a Thompson machine gun”

That was it. That’s all he ever told us and later when we asked about stuff, his answers were honest but short. We didn't ask a lot. He wasn’t interested on rehashing or reliving any of it. Not with us anyway. And I don’t think with any of his buddies either. He liked Comedy and Variety shows on TV like The Carol Burnett or the Red Skelton show. If some tear jerker came on he’d say something like “Well, this looks like a real laugher” and go somewhere else.

Some of my memories that are about him and not me...

He had me on our slate roof, 50 feet off the ground when I was 4, and had me tied to a piece of rope which he held and was wrapped around the chimney, while I repaired something about the gutter that I can no longer remember.
He had me mixing cement in a wheel barrow when I was 6 or so, and laying down some new sidewalk squares. 3 of them. With the troweled edges and all. When I was 7 and 8, we rebuilt the front porch deck. Hammer and nails and nail sets and circular saws.
About the same time, he had my brother and I (who was also in some of the above projects) down in the basement shooting cigarette butts with single shot .22 rifle at about 50 feet.
He had my brother and I tearing our bicycles down to their shorts and putting them back together.
When we were about 4 and 5,he drove us out to one of the roads very near the Greater Pittsburgh Airport in line with the runway, and as a plane came in to land, very low above us, we ducked and he slapped the top of the car and told us the plane’s landing gear had careened off the roof. We believed him. Later on, we watched one of the first Boeing 707 jets taking off from the "Observation Deck" of the Greater Pittsburgh Airport. A thing of the past to never return.
During those years, every time we came home from somewhere in the car, he’d pull most of the way into the garage, then tell my brother and I to hop out, go up front and blow out the headlights. We did it. By then we knew the score, but it was fun anyway. Man, I can still smell the car and feel the heat coming out of the front grill as we did that even right this very moment.

He was a heck of a fun Dad and even then we appreciated him a lot.

When he was younger, before and after the war, he had a Harley, an Indian '80, and a Henderson inline 4 cylinder motorcycle. Not at the same time. Once we started to show up, he got rid of them.

He told us he and his riding buddies would put copper contacts on the wheel rims and install lights and the wiring and contacts necessary to light them up while they rode. Must have been quite a sight. Sorry no pictures. I’d never even seen a picture of that but I’m sure it’s all true.

He had one beer a night, and on Christmas Eve, he had a beer and some cookies we left out for Santa.

Here are some pictures. I believe they are all prior to his deployment to Europe as none of them depict his rank of Sergeant. I think now, he didn't take any pictures post WWII in uniform. Rather he was done with it. I know what some but not all of what the medals and insignias mean. I'll be posting this every Veteran's day now and add whatever I've been able to learn in the meantime.

I sure miss him, but at the same time, I'm happy he isn't around to see this Cluster of a country he fought so hard for. It would kill him. I remember one of his oft spoken phrases even back in the 1970's was 'Aw Bullshit!'. Can't imagine what that would be in 2011.

The "Kidney Belt" was necessary. Harley's in those days would vibrate the kidneys right out of your body.

I remember he said when he got back on break after boot camp, he could do 250 push ups. Wish I could. That's a Pontiac on the right, not sure about the left. Buick?

Here is the paper money he brought back from the war. Not sure how Mexico got involved, but thought it was interesting the serial numbers were sequential on these El Banco De Chihuahau notes. Front and back.

Here is Dad and Mom after the war. My one year older brother is on the left, and I'm on the right. Later on, a little sister and a little brother arrived on the scene. At first glance it looks like I might be upset about something but my Mom told me later, I was actually pre-occupied and obsessed with pondering Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, which had just been released a couple years earlier.. Makes sense.

Anyway, they're all gone now.

Close The Post Office Completely

Can we not just close the post office?

The vast majority of people have computers and almost everyone accepts online bill payments, and who sends hard copy letters anymore beside women of questionable mental state that write to serial killers in prisons around the country, looking for that ‘special’ relationship with Mr. Right?

What else goes USPS? Outside of junk mail, which has got to be the majority of the USPS volume, I’d say some packages shipped by dysfunctional people who have yet to discover that UPS and FEDEX exist, and Christmas cards. Come on. Outside of the junk mail, UPS, FEDEX, and DHL could easily handle this traffic.

As far as junk mail goes, anyone dysfunctional enough to actually Want that stuff will go to great lengths to get it. So, I recommend having UPS, FEDEX, and DHL depositing large quantities of the stuff at high volume people traffic locations such as in front of Super-Markets, Wal-Marts and Dollar Stores. Places like that.

The following day, the waste collectors would drive by, pick up such material not consumed by afore mentioned purveyors of such and haul it off to be recycled into new junk mail to be delivered the following week.

Over the holidays such as Christmas, UPS trucks are like stray cats in the neighborhood. Up and down the streets all day long. No problemo with the special occasion greeting and celebratory Hallmark card transport extravaganza.

We’re talking about billions saved that could be freshly laundered into foreign aid or earmarks and consumed by politicians, their friends and dictator-tots around the world.

Well, not all bills are available to be paid on line you say. True. Personally, I get two bills on paper, from the county – water and property tax that are not available to pay on line. When these cretins find out they can’t mail them to me anymore they’ll get a fire under their butts and make them available to be paid on line or see their revenue fall by 99.999%.

Well, Not Everyone has a computer you say. Well, I say anyone without a computer or in a state to not be able to manage paying their bills without the USPS in existence, will simply be given a one way ticket to India or China. Problem solved, and a return on investment beside.

What’s not to like?

I just don’t see any problem with closing All of the post office locations in the USA. Outside of putting all those people out of work. Maybe they could start a company producing something the world wants that sans union overhead they could actually produce, ship worldwide and get rich in the process.

I ask people to consider that putting standard issue politicians in place has not caused America to reverse course on its path to socialism and soft communism that got a healthy kick start by LBJ in the early 60's, and has progressed unabated since and past Democrat and Republican administrations and congressional majorities through to this day in 2011.

Not even Ronald Reagan closed or altered one of the cancerous, life sucking departments such as Dept of Education.

So, what is the point of putting a red flag on the White House for 4 or 8 years (if that even happens in 2012) only to see the Democrats just pick up where they left off when the voters tire of New Boss Same as the Old Boss - more or less.

Reducing spending and all these other transient talking points are temporary, albeit many are real problems. Concentrating on symptoms is only temporary.

We must start Removing the socialist infrastructure put in by LBJ, Carter, Clinton, and even GW Bush in terms of the TSA and DHS....

I'm voting for Paul or Bachmann in the primary. Bachmann is not seasoned enough? Not enough of an 'experienced' politician? I see that as a major plus.

If they run anyone either than Paul or Bachmann, I'm writing in Bachmann or Paul.

If that assures an oblabber victory, then so be it. Maybe that's what the country needs. A little learning through experience. It would be disastrous for America, but standard issue Republicans are also disastrous and suicide, just a slower death.

I will give you that Newt is a sex machine in the debates, but so what. You might want to peruse this list. I'm quite sure he has no problem with oblabbercare and is on board with the whole global climate thingamabob, and has profited all over the politic-sphere as well. I have no use for him.

"Eat the Rich" - Ok, then what, there's only 1% of The Rich right? What then? They aren't capable enough to actually produce food so after the Rich are gone, those folks who actually produce and distribute food, these people are screwed. I wish I wasn’t born a ‘poor black child’ either. My father and his father worked like slaves and were thankful they had the Opportunity to make a better life for themselves. My Mother and Father didn’t focus on themselves however. They had 4 kids instead and drove used cars all their lives. We were poor, but I and my brothers and sister didn’t really acknowledge it. We all worked and made our way, cutting grass, shoveling snow, flipping burgers, whatever.

For my 11th birthday, I received a Used green plastic encased transistor radio that must have cost 50 cents back in the day. I put a note on it that said take it back and left it on the living room sofa. My Mom was righteously offended and told me so. I apologized then as I do now and shortly after, I was walking down the street holding it to my left ear listening to the Beatles playing I Want To Hold Your Hand. I was thankful for that radio at that point. I “Heard Music” for the first time in my life. My Father also walked Italy, France and Germany during WWII before I was born of course, and didn’t ask for anything nor got anything special for doing so.

So you know what folks? Suck it up and Shut Up and get busy living and making it for yourself. I nor anyone else Owes You Jack. Opportunity is what America provides you, not a guarantee you can be as well off as whoever you're focusing on.

My Take on "Wall Street Protesters"

The fact that the wall street 'protesters' are occupying 'Wall Street' illuminates their mindless fascination with cheap parlor tricks. It was Washington DC who gave all of Our money, Present and Future - to Wall Street, and the Banks, Foreign and Domestic. Wall Street Did Not Steal It, It was Given To Them by the Political. (30 Trillion as of a few years ago through the means of Bernanke buying their worthless mortgage paper and putting it on the Fed's balance sheet. When the heat is off in a decade or so, it will be flushed because it will never be worth anything. And this is a long way from over. Europe is just getting started and we are all connected at the hip bone.)

Anyway, I don't include Past money, as we each had the opportunity to protect that money. This is hardball after all and if you don't know that, please know it now. No one other than you and maybe your Mother and Father are interested in the Protection of your money. Everyone else will do anything and everything to get it. And no-one in Washington DC even cares if you die tomorrow. Most of them like that idea actually, especially if your estate is valued in the realm where they have decided it is reasonable for them to take 50+ percent of it. Money and assets that have already been taxed. Supposedly not possible to tax money that has already been taxed, but hey, we're dealing with Coke Addicts here.

These protester idiots should be surrounding the capitol building and the Federal Reserve, but like the children they are, they gravitate to the 'shiny thing' the magician holds to the side to capture their attention - Wall Street and Broad. Personally, I'd say most of those [wall street] people are just like us - out there trying to make a living for themselves and family with the occasional Madoff CSer tossed in, but certainly those Madoff bastards are in the minority. Pathetic. But these [protesters] Are children after all.

Let's forget my judgement and opinion. Let's say the 'wall street protesters' are righteous, intelligent, well informed folks on a righteous mission. They won't accomplish anything. The big money runs the world. It is the way it is. You aren't going to get Loyd Blankfein (CEO of Goldman) to resign. At the end of the day, Goldman Sacs will still have their super computer(s) sitting within inches of the exchange computers so they can siphon off large sums of money each and every trading day because they have the advantage of beating out electrons coming from much further than a few feet away. It's called High Frequency Trading if you didn't know and want to check it out.

Furthermore, at the end of the day, the big banks will still be around because selling houses is the main driver of the economy. And since few of us can swing buying a house without a mortgage, those people will always be around.

As usual with 'protesters' - their 15 minutes of fame will dry up and this rock will be same as it ever was. Same as it ever was.

After posting this Blue Angels picture on the right side, I went to their site and found they've upgraded it to have video of most of the entire show shot from the cockpits of the performing aircraft. If you love air-shows, the Blue Angels, fighter planes, and piloting like I do, you will enjoy this.

Click the picture. You'll note an icon on the lower right of the split screen that is a box with shadow line bottom and left and an arrow pointing into the box, that's full screen. If you hit that, the vid is more enjoyable, but if the video gets stuck as it has for me, you'll need to go back to non full screen and click on the next clip to restart it.

Personally, I start on # 7, which is the F/A-18 part of the show.

Cocoon Nebula

There doesn't seem to be much really special about this photo. It is the cocoon nebula. But I find it refreshing and intriguing. Usually you see these nebula's in close-up. In this context the nebula seems to take on more meaning through distinguishing itself as a totally alien entity to the stars around it. I think it's a great picture. The nebula looks alive.

Windows Space Cadet Pinball

Anyone else play ? I've been playing it a long time. The other day I beat my 32 million high score by quite a bit. 59 million and change. You gotta be in the groove to score well.

I will tell you my secret strategy is to pay no attention to anything else but put the ball up the right hand side ramp until I've got the Extra Ball lights lit, then plop that sucker into the black hole, and score an extra ball in the right hand save slot. That is all I pay any attention to doing, outside of keeping the ball in play.

I can tell you this game took a lot of extra balls. I went out as an Admiral of course.

FWIW, you can move WinXP pinball to Win7 by just copying the entire Pinball directory from WinXP to the Windows 7 directory C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games, resulting in having a C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Pinball directory with the contents from the WinXP machine.

Then navigate to that directory and right click on the silver ball, and select pin to taskbar.

The only other thing to do is ignore 'the election' for another 12 months at least.

Health Care Costs

Why won't anyone in politics explain that the problem with health care costs is the totally unregulated and no holds barred environment for lawyers who feed off of the health care system like vampires ?

Texas passed a law prohibiting frivolous health care related lawsuits within the last few years.

The effect was that a single hospital in Texas before the law was paying out 100 million a year just to defend themselves - not in paying claims, but simply defending themselves against the onslaught. After the law, their legal costs deflated to 2 million a year. A 98% reduction in the legal costs category.

Extrapolate that across the country and Problem Solved.

Anytime I hear politicians talking about the problem it's always a bunch of freakin nonsense. This is not complicated.

Furthermore, balance the idea that if your loved one dies in an aircraft crash, you are only going to be eligible for a certain amount of money from the airline. You don't go to court. You don't petition a jury. You don't have some jury award you 8 billion dollars. Yet, when a single individual, among millions of people benefiting from a drug, taking that drug for depression, committed suicide, Pfizer was sued and the jury awarded the plaintiff multi-billions of dollars in award. And the drug was taken off the market which adversely affected the millions of people who were benefiting. If someone dies in a Chevy Impala, do we remove Chevy Impalas from the road?

Who paid that? Pfizer? Nope, we did. Not only that but now Every drug company self-determined that to be responsible to their shareholders, that they must create an escrow account and fund it with multi-billions in case They get sued. Guess who pays for that.

Is there a website you can go to that tells you how much extra we are all paying because of this nonsense? No.

My gut tells me it's at least 50% of all of our health care costs and/or insurance payments.

And why can't all health insurance companies sell in any state they want? Why does the government restrict them and not allow them to sell in any given state. There is something evil going on here and we haven't even touched on oblabbercare yet.

Gold Again

So, here is an interesting comparison chart, courtesy of the fine folks at Minyanville.com. Click on the chart to go to the article if you're the type of person that likes information..

This chart shows the Gold bull market from roughly the 60's to the 1980 period (where Jackie Onassis sold hers and made a killing).

The interesting part is that the parabolic rise into 1975 wasn't the end of the bull run. It sold off for a year and a quarter or so, then resumed its parabolic run into 1980. The other interesting thing is that the 2nd worst president ever, jimmy carter, was in the White House during this period. History Rhymes eh?

Anyway, adjusted for all that mathematical stuff, inflation, dollar value, etc, gold today is no where near the level it got to in 1980, though if the pattern holds it will go into a downtrend and sell off for a year or so before picking back up.

Without further ado.

So, Rand Paul is on the 10 minutes of Hannity I listen to on the way home.

They're talking about Jobs.

So, Senator Paul huffs and puffs and says he's heading down to the Senate floor after talking on the radio and he and the republicans are going to vote on a no confidence measure for Timmy Giether, the Treasury Secretary. And he says it in the context of how this administration has not done anything positive for jobs growth.

Someone tell me how any Treasury Secretary is somehow associated with job growth. They aren't, let alone this buffoon.
Timmy wanted out recently, or how the story goes. If true, then old Rand might actually be doing Timmy a favor intentionally, by helping him get thrown under the bus, and in such a way as to further obscure and misdirect away obama's singular responsibility for no job growth. Well, negative job growth actually. So, he might be doing oblabber a favor too.
Rand could easily be seen as working for the democrats and obama here.
The lack of job growth, as expressed continually by business leaders, and again in a couple different ways today in the news, is the result of obama and the democrats passing oblabbercare and bulldozing the business world in America with job stifling regulations.
Timmy had zero association with either of these two items.
Rand Paul is a pathetic RINO and so are most of the Repubblekins.
As a final note, there is some small value in having one of oblabbers cabinet forced out. I'd rather it was the assclown head of DHS or the assclown attorney general but who cares. It's pretty much meaningless all around. I'd like to see eric holder up on charges actually for lying to Congress about 'fast and furious'.
